Wild Horses on Mount Sentinel
Wild Horses Near City
Come From Mt. Sentinel but Do Not Go Within Municipal Limits
Six unbranded horses, small in stature, Tuesday night pawed and galloped and snorted around homes south of the University, but they seemed to sense the city limits and stayed in the country. They can not be taken into the city pound until they trespass on city property, says James Thompson, city herder.
Mr. Thompson says that he understands the horses come up to the line and sniff at the dead vegetation across it, but do not cross. The animals are part of the band of wild horses that live on Mount Sentinel during the warmer months. The deep snow up there drove them down onto the flat and around suburban homes, it is believed.
