Tower Came Down – “Doesn’t belong here anymore”
A 197-foot radio tower on California Street – erected in 1947 – is coming down this week. It’s on property owned by Dan Tabish, who bought the site 10 years ago. When Tabish bought the property, the tower was covered by a long-term lease, but now the lease has run out. Tabish said he sold the tower to a company that dismantles such structures and rebuilds them for resale. Work began Tuesday but was temporarily halted. “They’ll have to come back with a bigger crane,” Tabish said. The tower, he said, “is something that a lot of people have seen, but it doesn’t belong here anymore – with the growth of Missoula, traffic patterns and helicopters.”
