One-Hundredth Anniversary of Christianity in West Montana

St. Mary’s Mission at right, Indian tepees behind it and the cloud-shrouded Bitter Root Mountains form a picturesque backdrop for the observance in 1941 at Stevensville of the 100th anniversary of Christianity in western Montana. An estimated 8,000 persons gathered for the impressive pontifical high mass celebrated at the huge altar in the left background. The tepees were erected by descendants of the only inhabitants of the area when the mission was erected in 1841.
