[Mt. Sentinel Women’s Club] Starts With 56 Members
The Mt. Sentinel Women’s Club was organized Oct. 4, 1933, at the home of Mrs. R. L. Stoick for the purpose of allowing women of the newly settled South Side community to become acquainted.
At the first meeting 56 women were present. The first officers were Mrs. R. J. Tucker, president; Mrs. Stella Westaby, vice president; Mrs. O. Johnson, secretary-treasurer.
At a meeting in December 1933 the constitution and bylaws were compiled and adopted. It was at this meeting that the name Mt. Sentinel Club was established.
Members paid 10 cents dues for each monthly meeting.
Projects have included support of Warm Springs, Opportunity School, CARE and Cancer Research. The club has also adopted a rest home for elderly people.
Membership in 1960 is 34 of whom 12 are charter members. The club celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1958 with a tea at Hotel Florence honoring members of all the women’s clubs in Missoula. Officers for 1960; Mrs. L. E. Dunwell, president; Mrs. L. E. Hall, vice president; Mrs. L. A. Minta; secretary, and Mrs. A. C. Keppel, treasurer.
