State Pioneers Complete Organization in 1884
The Society of Montana Pioneers completed its organization at a meeting in Helena on Sept. 11, 1884.
The first permanent officers elected were: James Fergus, president; W. W. DeLacey, Granville Stuart, Joseph A. Browne, James M. Arnoux, Thomas H. Irvine, John Potter, H. H. Mood, Conrad Kohrs, P. W. McAdow, Enoch H. Wilson, Caleb E. Irvine and C. P. Higgins, vice presidents; W. F. Sanders, corresponding secretary; George W. Irvine, recording secretary, and Samuel T. Hauser, treasurer.
Among signatures of western Montanans reported attached to the constitution were those of T. H. Griffith, Drummond; John Potter, Hamilton; T. H. Kennedy, W. H. Rodgers, Charles W. Berry, James A. Dixon, John (W. J.) McCormick, Missoula; Joseph E. Marion and Joseph Houle, Frenchtown; W. S. Barrett, Florence; S. E.Larabie, John Bielenberge, A. H. Mitchell, Phil E. Evans, George W. Carlton, Deer Lodge.
