Woodworth Gets Thrilling Boat Ride

C. E. Woodworth in August of 1892 traveled about 100 miles down the Blackfoot River from its headwaters to its mouth in a skiff. He described the experience as “a most thrilling one and one which I do not care to try again.” The trip took him two days. He said that at one point he was thrown out when the boat struck a rock, stopping the boat while he continued downstream. He said he was constantly busy dodging rocks and whirlpools, and that the river, rather than he, decided his stops along the shore.
