Peculiar Missoula River Ice – Feb, 1900

One of the most peculiar things to happen this year in connection with the Missoula river is the fact that for the last eight years the south channel has never frozen over, no matter how cold the weather has been. This year the weather has not been very cold, and especially not any colder than to freeze ice. The south channel is frozen and the boys and girls are enjoying a good skate on it. During all these years the north channel has frozen over, not missing a single year, but so far this year has not been closed up at all.

The above item appeared, Feb. 2, 1900, in the Missoula newspaper, Daily Democrat-Messenger.
