Orchard Homes Frenzy – Hoard of Purchasers
Orchard Homes Frenzy
Johnston and Orton Hold Reunion Here
When Sheriff P. F. Johnston of Sanders county came to the city from Thompson Falls Tuesday afternoon he had a brief reunion with an old friend, Pete Orton. The renewed acquaintance of years ago when they operated a ranch together in what is now the Orchard Homes district.
The two had part of the old Spurgen (sic) ranch under lease and recalled that they raised the last crop of grain on the ranch before the portion of it they had went into subdivisions for the beginning of Orchard Homes.
When the two were comparing notes they referred back to the days when their crops were maturing and when purchasers were taking up subdivisions before their lease had expired and of the difficulty that they had in harvesting the crop. One of them always had to stay on the ranch so that a horde of purchasers from town would not invade the property, they related.
Mr. Johnston was accompanied to the city by Harold Dean, county attorney of Sanders county.
