Marcus Daly’s gift to Sacred Heart Academy

At Sister’s Academy – Mr. Daly Was a Friend of the School.
There adorns a prominent wall of the Sister’s academy of the Sacred Heart an excellent likeness of the late Marcus Daly, done in oil, and comes as a gift from Brother Carignane, S. J., of the St. Ignatius Mission. The study is a life-size bust framed in massive gilt, which portion of the gift comes from the Sisters of Wallace, Idaho.
The splendid addition to the academy gallery comes with double satisfaction in the likeness of the institution’s greatest benefactors. When the needs of the school became insistent of larger quarters Mr. Daly was approached on the subject of a donation to aid in the work and generously offered free whatever lumber would be necessary for the work. With such a substantial start little difficulty was experienced by the worthy Sisters in securing necessary donations for the erection of a structure that at this time all Missoula is proud of, and one that houses and is used as a school for 152 boarding pupils.
The above article appeared in The Missoulian on January 14, 1901.
Montana’s incredible Marcus Daly died in N. Y. at age 58 in November of 1900.
