Kid Curry Seen in Elk City According to a Lumberjack
C. A. Barnes, who arrived home Friday from a trip as far west as Spokane, tells of meeting a man from Elk City, Idaho, who claims to have seen Kid Curry in Elk City last Saturday night. Mr. Barnes went from Sand Point to Spokane over the Great Northern. At Elk City a number of workmen boarded the train and sat down with him.
The stranger picked up a Seattle paper and the first article to catch his eye had reference to trains on the Northern Pacific being dynamited near Helena.
His first remark was “that’s Kid Curry’s work.” He stated he had not seen a paper in weeks, as he had been out in the camps, and he had heard nothing about Kid Curry having been seen in Montana nor of the several attempt[s] at dynamiting the Northern Pacific.
He gave as his reason for believing that it was Kid Curry the fact that he knew him, had known him when he used to ride the ranges of northern Wyoming, and he had seen Kid in Elk City the Saturday night previous.
He recognized him and spoke to him. The Kid was just boarding a freight train at the time.
The above article appeared in The Daily Missoulian on October 11, 1903.
Curry allegedly died by his own hand after being caught in Colorado in the summer of 1904.
