Formed to Study New Deal
A group which organized to study the New Deal Sept. 20, 1934, became the Missoula County Democratic Women’s Club Nov. 1, 1937.
Officers of the original group, the New Deal Study Club, were Mrs. C. M. Claypool, president; Mrs. C. W. Leaphart, vice president; Mrs. John Dunn, secretary; Mrs Walter Coombs, treasurer.
Charter Members
Charter members in addition to the officers were Mrs. Walter Pope, Marian Brayman Jones, Mrs. Will Cave, Mrs. Mary Bartlett, Mrs. W. J. Babington, Mrs. Fred Poe3, Alice Woody, Mrs. Guy Stucky, Mrs. C. L. Prescott and Ann Conlon.
Monthly Meetings
In early years paid membership was between 130 and 150. Members met monthly and assisted the Democratic Central Council with activities. Mrs. Leaphart and Mrs. Coombs have served three presidential terms each since the club was organized.
Officers for 1959-60; Mrs. Dale Arnold, president; Mrs. Douglas Hanson, vice president, and Mrs. H. S. Bartron, secretary-treasurer.
