Freight Wagon in Front of Early Missoula Post Office

This six-horsepower freight outfit was parked in front of Dickinson’s Variety Store in the 100 block of East Front street in July of 1879. The store, operated by W. H. H. Dickinson, also served as Missoula’s Post Office of that day. Newton Chaffin and Dickinson were standing in the upper windows when this photo was made. On the wagon are Amos Buck and Will Cave. John Kennedy is standing at the rear of their wagon. (Courtesy of W. O. Dickinson)
