Daphne Bugbee Jones was a dynamic Missoula leader for many years. Born in Florida in 1921 she served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. She earned a master’s degree at Harvard in architecture in 1952.
She married Henry Bugbee in 1948 and moved to Missoula in 1958. Dr. Henry Bugbee was a professor of philosophy at the University of Montana and chaired the department for several years. After the couple divorced, Daphne married Dr. Wendell Jones in 1980.
She was very active in Missoula both professionally and politically. She was a delegate to the Montana Constitutional Convention in 1972 and was a Montana State Senator. She was instrumental in the development of several Missoula community organizations that still benefit the area, including the Five Valley Land Trust.
Daphne died in Missoula in 2012.
