Back to Wisconsin – 1902 – Opprobrium – she ought not to love Otto too well

Otto Hearst Will Make the Journey in Charge of an Officer
A few short months ago Otto Hearst, aged 32 years, was a resident of Lacrosse, Wis. There he won the affections of a young lady who loved not wisely but too well. In other words, that while the divine injunction is that we ought to love, to love Otto, she says she ought not to. Otto discovered that he had made a mistake and it is alleged, to escape left the scenes of his happiness and came west. This was last spring. He reached Missoula in July or August and put in some hard licks for a while at Jackson’s foundry, later going to Bonner, where he was located yesterday by Sheriff W. E. Barber of Lacrosse Wis., who served papers on him charging him with bastardy.
Hearst says he is not afraid of the charge and is willing to go back without putting the officers to the trouble of securing a requisition. Sheriff Barber will start with his prisoner today and in due time he will have an opportunity of proving his innocence.
