Arnie Carruthers – Jazz Artist with “Fast Fingers”
Deane Jones on Arnie Carruthers
“A friend dropped in to report that he’d been over to Spokane for a few days and found Arnie Carruthers playing in a different location, at the Rockaway.
“That means a little something to Missoula live music fans who heard Arnie play here while he was a U student, and afterward. It means a little more to me. I gave Arnie his first music job back in the old Press Club, about 1951 or thereabouts. He’s really bounced since his Kalispell high school days. And his present boss, Joe O’Neill, attended St. Francis grade school here.”
The comments above come from Deane Jones’ Missoulian column on July 18, 1967.
Arnie Carruthers became a very popular musician, especially in Spokane where, “Anybody who knew anything about music soon knew the name Arnie Carruthers.”
