Where First MSU Classes Were Conducted
It was here, in Septembers of 1895, that Montana State University got its start. This building was known as the South Side School when it was constructed on the site of the present Willard Grade School. The old building served for University, high school and grade school classes during its years of existence. (Courtesy of H. S. Jewett)
First MSU Faculty Poses for Picture
This was the first faculty of Montana State University when the institution first opened its doors in the old Willard School building on South 6th street west. From left are Prof. Cynthia Erling Reiley, mathematics; Prof. W. M. Aber, Latin and Greek; Prof S. A. Merritt, science; President Oscar J. Craig, and Prof. F. C. Scheuch, modern languages. Craig also taught history and literature.
