Most Recent Addition to Missoula Hospitals
This $3,000,000 structure completed in 1952 added 225 beds to St. Patrick Hospital’s extensive facilities on West Broadway. This modern hospital, equipped with the latest in equipment, is a far cry from the ramshackle building in which the Sisters of Charity of Providence first started their Missoula operations in 1873. Community Hospital Long in Missoula
Although the Community Hospital has gone by that name only since 1959 its history goes back to the early 1920s when Dr. C. R. and Will Thornton operated the Thornton Hospital in the 500 block on South 3rd street and later, starting in 1923, at the present site of the hospital on East Main street.

The Northern Pacific Beneficial Hospital, dedicated primarily to care of NP employees, has served this community since 1884 when the first of three hospital buildings on the North Side was opened. The present brick structure was constructed in 1917.
