Huge Pile of Wood Chips Is Food for Mill

From the roof of the pulp mill Nels H. Sandberg, president of Waldorf-Hoerner Products Co., has a commanding view of the wood chip stockpile that provides raw materials for the plant. This pile normally contains between 25,000 and 50,000 tons of chips. They are brought in by train and truck from many western Montana sawmills.

Pipes Present Impressive Pattern

The size of these pipes used to carry gasses from which chemicals are being extracted gives an indication of the massiveness of the huge pulp plant of the Waldorf-Hoerner Paper Products Co. The workman at right is dwarfed by the equipment he helps keep running efficiently.
