Missoula Changes To Wartime
Missoula, along with the rest of the United States and Canada, changed to wartime Feb. 9, 1942. Missoula residents set their clocks ahead one hour.
The time was changed to save electric power, and in cities that were potential bombing targets to allow people to get home from work before night fell and the blackout came.
The change was little more than an interesting topic of conversation to Missoulians, but provided difficulty for railroads. Most trains were forced to rapidly make up the hour lost in the time change, although none could start until shortly after the actual hour, due to restrictions of schedules.
Park At One Time
Block six in Carline Addition was set aside at one time by county officials to be used as a park, recreation center and emergency nursery school for families in the surrounding area. The petition was submitted in 1940 by the Carline Addition Parent Education Extension Club.
