Missoula Cemetery Established in ‘85
The Missoula Cemetery was established in 1885.
Land for that purpose was surveyed by H. V. Wheeler in December 1884 and his records were filed in the county courthouse in January 1885. The work was completed by a company known as the Missoula Valley Improvement Co. which consisted of Judge Frank H. Woody, W. H. H. Dickinson, T. C. Marshall and Dr. Isidore Cohn.
Dickinson and Dr. Cohn later sold their interests to F. L. Worden and A. B. Hammond. The Missoula Valley Improvement Co. owned and controlled the cemetery until Jan. 16, 1901, when it was deeded to the city.
The City Council passed an ordinance accepting the Missoula Cemetery March 4, 1901, and provided for a Board of Trustees. The first board consisted of D. R. Beck, president; Mrs. H. A. Keith, vice president; Mrs. L. Worden, Samuel Bellew, E. A. Winstanley and Mrs. Lizzie Mills. J. W. Lister was secretary.
