Camp Fire Girls Note 1806 Lewis Visit
In November 1939 the Camp Fire Girls erected a plaque near where East Broadway crosses Rattlesnake Creek, commemorating a campsite of Meriwether Lewis of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition. The plaque reads: “Meriwether Lewis and his party camped by this stream July 4, 1806.” This is only one of many service projects conducted by the Camp Fire Girls since the organization of the group in 1914. Time Out for Relaxation
Camp Fire Girls sit around a fire listening to Hazel Stook, executive director, read a story. These girls were attending the second camp session at the Camp Paxson site at Seeley Lake. Before 1940 summer camp was at Flathead Lake with the first encampment there at the Epworth League campgrounds in 1935. (Courtesy of Camp Fire Girls)
