William Wyman Andrus
William Wyman Andrus “Wyman”, age 87, of Miles City Montana, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2014, at his home in Surprise, Arizona.
Wyman was born June 10, 1927 in Miles City, Montana to Edson and Genevieve Andrus. While in High School Wyman was a quarterback on the Football Team and ran on the Track Team at Missoula County High School. Wyman attended the University of Montana for three years as a pre-med student, and then received a full scholarship to Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Wyman also served 9 months in the Navy during World War II. Wyman graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1953, and became a prominent Cardiologist in Seattle, Washington. As a Cardiologist, Wyman served at Highline, Providence, and Swedish Hospitals on the cutting edge of cardiovascular disease.
On September 6th, 1950 Wyman Andrus married Diane J. Dragestedt in Missoula, Montana. The couple moved to Seattle, Washington so that Wyman could begin his medical practice. Together they had three daughters: Melanie, Pamela, and Lisa. While in Seattle Wyman and Diane were patrons of the fine arts including opera, ballet, and the symphony. Wyman studied opera and played the trumpet. Wyman’s hobbies also included golf, snow skiing, tennis, and photography. He was a true renaissance man.
Survivors include his wife Diane, daughters Melanie, Pamela, and Lisa, grandsons Michael and Robert, and brothers Allen and Tommy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 17th, 2015 at 2pm at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Road, in Surprise, AZ 85374. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Wyman’s behalf to the American Heart Association .
