Cedar Creek Had 1,500 in 1870

A mining camp on Cedar Creek, in the western part of the county, had an estimated population of 1,500 persons in 1870.

Louis A. Barrette and B. Lanthier made the discovery of paying mines on the creek during the autumn of 1869. The discovery of other mines in the immediate neighborhood soon followed. It was estimated that the entire product of Cedar Creek and surrounding gulches since its discovery was something over $1,000,000.
