He Had a Gay Time

Alex. Harley, a lumberman from Kendall’s saw mill, near Bonita, this morning filed a complaint before Justice Hayes charging a box-rustler in a resort of the city with robbing him of $35 in gold last night while he was under the influence of liquor and having, what he supposed was, in his drunken state of mind, a h – -l of a good time with “the girls.” Alex. is a pretty gay sport himself, and on his arrival in town yesterday proceeded to “bowl up” to a degree where he imagined himself a millionaire, and late in the afternoon he ran onto a gang of kids who blew him for $20 worth of candy, peanuts, slates, sodawater; and in fact whatever the kids wanted the man would buy for them. He claims that while at the resort last night he was in a box with the girl whom he had arrested, and gave her a twenty dollar gold piece for her to make change for a bottle of beer. He put the change in his pocket and, shortly after, missing it, he quietly left the place. He was still drunk this morning when he swore out the complaint. At the hearing this afternoon, Justice Hayes put all parties to the case under bonds to appear at the trial, which was set for Tuesday at 2 p. m. The judge also advised Harley to leave the city until that time, as he was still drinking and getting somewhat boisterous.
