Dr. Charles Thornton and his brother William founded Thornton Hospital, originally on the corner of Orange and 3rd. Streets in Missoula. Thornton Hospital later moved to where the Missoula Public Library is now located. It later became Community Hospital in 1959.The new Community Medical Center opened in 1972.
