Slashed to the Bone – In Hell’s Half Acre
A Dusky Denizen of Hell’s Half Acre Wields a Razor.
Hell’s Half Acre flowed with human blood this morning shortly after 1 o’clock. As a result Mike Lahey of Nine Mile may lose his left arm from a slash from a razor which was wielded by a dusky denizen named Eva Coda, in whose house he was visiting. Just how the trouble came up is told in two ways – one by the man and the other by the woman.
The first intimation of trouble was the blowing of a police whistle and screaming in the direction of the woman’s house. The women living near her, rushed out and beheld a man walking on the sidewalk bleeding like a stuck hog. The woman was standing in her door. When Officer Larson met Lahey on the street he brought him back to show where it was done. This was unnecessary for the stream of blood could be tracked into her house and the carpet was covered with blood. As soon as this was seen Lahey was taken to Dr. Fitzgerald’s office. The forearm of his left arm is cut to the bone. He is also cut about the face. Lahey claims she took $5 from him. When he accused her of taking it she attempted to butcher him with a razor. She tells a garbled story and claims the cutting was done in self-defense. She was locked up in the county jail.
