Dave Boyd, Well Known In Missoula, Passes in Seattle
Information has been received in Missoula of the death in Seattle of Dave Boyd, Seattle apartment house owner and former livery stable operator here. His death occurred Thursday following a long illness.
Mr. Boyd is survived by three sons in Seattle, and one brother, William Boyd of Ovando. Another brother, Ales Boyd, was killed in an automobile accident in Seattle about six months ago. William Boyd, Jr., an employe of the Missoula Mercantile company, is a nephew of Dave Boyd.
With his brother, Ales, Dave Boyd constructed the building now standing on the northeast corner of Main and Stevens streets, and conducted a livery stable there for a number of years. The second floor of the building, now the Elite ballroom, was used as a roller-skating rink.
In 1907, Gaspard Deschamps, Sr., purchased the building and the following year moved the Deschamps Implement company into it from its former location in the first block on West Broadway. After sale of the building, the Boyd brothers moved to Seattle to make their homes. The Deschamps Implement company was sold to the Grattan Implement company in 1929. They took possession of the building January 15, 1930 and are still located there.
The third brother, William Boyd of Ovando, attracted considerable attention last December when he purchased the 3,640 acre Harper ranch in the Blackfoot valley for $25,000, and added it to his already considerable property.
