An great discussion about several of Montana’s largest gold nuggets can be found in an article that appeared in The Mining World (p 719) on May 2, 1908, written by Matt W. Alderson.

The article stated that the largest one ever found weighed 14 ½ pounds and was found by De Foe and company in Deadwood gulch in Oct., 1865.
