No Driving ‘Faster Than a Walk’ on This One

This was the first Higgins Avenue Bridge in Missoula, started in 1872 and completed in 1873. The sign over the north entrance says “25 dollars fine for riding or driving over this bridge faster than a walk.” The other sign warns of a $100 fine for moving livestock over the bridge faster than a walk or in groups of more than 10 at a time.
